Complex Personal Injury$7.5 MILLION VERDICT IN TRAIN ACCIDENT SUITAn Essex County jury awarded an unemployed Newark man and his family $7.5 million for Injuries he suffered when he was struck by a NJ Transit train while walking across the Newark railroad tracks. E.O. sought to take a shortcut across the tracks at about 9:20 p.m. when an eastbound train hit him, causing a major head injury and breaking his right arm. Norm Hobbie and Dave Corrigan tried the case, alleging that Amtrak knew that people dangerously crossed the tracks, but took no action to make it safer. The verdict was reduced to $4.5 million because though the jury awarded $7.5 million in damages, it also found him to be 40% at fault. |
